U2 star sues personal assistant

ADAM CLAYTON is suing his former personal assistant claiming she stole £1.6 million from his accounts.

The U2 bassist has secured a temporary court order to freeze Carol Hawkins' assets.

She allegedly spent the money on property, including a New York apartment, expensive cars and jewellery.

According to the Irish Independent, Dublin High Court heard that Clayton was concerned that Hawkin's assets might be dissipated and this was why he was seeking the freezing order.

Clayton is believed to have fired Hawkins last month after she confessed to "misappropriating" some of his money.

The subsequent investigation allegedly found that she had been using the musician's credit and debit cards for herself.

The court heard Hawkins admitted using his cards, but disputed the sums of money involved.

The case is due to resume in court tomorrow.

Madness 02 Academy, Glasgow

Madness fans want ska yeah? – so despite the amount of fezzes and pork pie hats on display, the crowd didn't seem interested in tonight’s support DJ. It quietened down slightly for 1981 Madness bio-pic Take It Or Leave It on the big screen behind the stage, complete with audio and bad acting. This however was not the way to get the crowd in the mood for the ensuing Madness- or so I thought.

The lights dimmed and from stage left entered a kilted piper complete with sporran, waistcoat and brogues, like a renegade from the Tartan Army, whos jigs and reels had everybody hoochin’ and schoochin’ instantly putting the crowd in a better mood. The band came on to thunderous applause and Chas Smash stepped up to the microphone, straight into the spoken (shouted) introduction to One Step Beyond -and Madness did indeed ensue.

The more recent songs from recent album 'The Liberty Of Norton Folgate’, were very well received (and played), with people dancing and singing; but it was the greatest hits package we were here for and it was those songs that sent everyonr into a frenzy. All the classics were there - Embarrassment, House of Fun, Our House, Bed And Breakfast Man, My Girl, which caused previously untapped levels of energy to be expelled in a heaving sweaty mass. People soon became embroiled in a 'legalised violence’ form of dangerously brilliant dancing. I was punched and kicked and got a painful elbow in the ear; but we gave as good as we got. As Lee Kix Thomson brought his saxophone to his lips for the last time and let out the sound of a foghorn, he signalled not only the start of the fans favourite tune 'Night Boat To Cairo’, but also the perfect end to the show, with levels of violent dancing becoming positively gladiatorial.

Rage to play free gig if they reach number one

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE have said they will play a free gig if they get the UK Christmas number one this evening.

The American rockers are going head to head with X Factor winner Joe McElderry for the coveted position.

Rage's guitarist Tom Morello described the campaign to keep McElderry's debut single 'The Climb' off the top spot as a "grassroots revolt".
And he said the band would ask X Factor producer and judge Simon Cowell to host the free gig.

He said: "Spread the word! Knock on doors! Host downloading parties! Knock over ladies buying X-Factor! The clock is ticking. And if 'Killing in the Name' is number one we are coming. And it will be the victory party to end all victory parties."

Arctic Monkeys post webcast online

ARCTIC MONKEYS have posted a live webcast of their latest album Humbug online.

The band posted the transmission, which they performed in July and sees them play five tracks from the album, on the internet this weekend.

The gig, which is on their official site, arcticmonkeys.com, sees the band perform on a dramatically lit stage with giant blue screens.

It also includes them covering Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds', 'Red Right Hand'.

Corinne Bailey Rae to play London gig

CORINNE BAILEY RAE has announced that she will play a one-off London show in February.

The singer will play the Shepherd's Bush Empire on the 24th to support her new album 'The Sea'.

Released on February 1, the album was recorded alongside producers Steve Brown and Steve Chrisanthou in Manchester and Leeds.

Tickets are on sale now.

Joe McElderry slams Rage's song

X FACTOR winner Joe McElderry has said he thinks Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name is "dreadful".

The 18-year-old, who is up against the American rockers for this year's UK Christmas number one, said he was sickened when he heard the track for the first time.

He told the Sun: 'They can’t be serious! I had no idea what it sounded like. It’s dreadful and I hate it. How could anyone enjoy this? Can you imagine the grandmas hearing this over Christmas lunch?

'I wouldn’t buy it. It’s a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn’t like it. They wouldn’t get through to boot camp on The X Factor – they’re just shouting.'

Joe added: 'I will be really disappointed if it doesn’t go to No1 after all the effort I’ve put in to this and winning the show.'

Lil' Wayne questioned over drugs possession

LIL WAYNE was forced to cancel a gig after he was held by police over possession of cannabis.

The rapper was held by Border Police in the US as he made his way to a scheduled concert in Laredo, Texas, after they found marijuana on his tour buses.

He and 11 other people travelling with him, were briefly questioned before being released, but the case has now been referred to the Brooks County Sheriff's Office.

The star, real name Dwayne Carter, postponed the Laredo gig just minutes before it was due to start.

He only recently pleaded guilty to gun charges, following a 2007 arrest in New York, where police found a gun on his tourbus.

Lil' Wayne is due to begin a year sentence on February 9, 2010, shortly after the proposed launch of his much-delayed new rock album 'Rebirth', which is now due for release on February
